For this week’s post I want to spend some time talking about one of the most important concepts in network marketing: Duplication.

There are many ways of building a network marketing business. Your upline may tell you one thing. You may read another way in a book. You may find another method on the internet. You may come up with ideas yourself. How can you know which methods are good. Are some better than others? What determines if your systems will work or not? The key is duplication. If your way of building a business is easily duplicatable, then you will succeed. If not your system may struggle. It’s as simple as that.

There are a few examples of NON-duplicatable systems:

Example 1: You are a very attractive female and decide to wear a bikini and promote your product on the beach. You end up getting several men signed up as distributors in the business. This may work well for you but then you realize your team isn’t doing much. None of the guys will be able to pull off selling in a bikini!

Example 2: You are a millionaire and own a yacht. You throw parties on your yacht several times week. You offer free parties to anyone who brings a guest. Once everyone is on the yacht, they are wined and dined and eventually pitch the business. Everyone is wowed and most of the people will sign up. This sounds like a great way of running the business until you realize that nobody on the team is able to duplicate this. Nobody else owns a yacht. Although you can sponsor people all day long, nobody else will be effective at building the business.

Examples of Duplicatable systems:

Example 1: When you sponsor somebody into the business they are handed a training manual / work book. This teaches them about the product and how sponsor somebody into the business. The training manual includes instructions for making sure all new reps are trained using this manual.

Example 2: An online system is created that has video training on how to promote your business. All new reps watch the same videos and learn the same way you did.

As you can see, the duplicatable systems can duplicate over and over. If you sponsor somebody and they sponsor somebody and so and so forth, eventually even 100′s of levels deep or more you should still have people using the same system.

You may be asking what if the bikini girl or the yacht guy handed everybody a workbook when they signed them up. This is definitely a great idea and may work but it won’t be as effective. If for example, the training book talks about inviting people over for an in-home presentation, the prospect may wonder if this really works. They never got to see this work first hand. Or if the system is enroll somebody online, the prospect may have doubts that people would actually sign up online. The prospect may think these methods don’t really work because if they did, the person enrolled them wouldn’t have needed to use a different method.

If on the other hand, let’s say you saw an ad online and signed up for a business. Then you watch several training videos and the videos tell how to place ads. You will have a lot of confidence that the ads would work because they worked on you!

The key to remember is this: monkey see, monkey do. You are training your prospect through every step of the sales presentation. I was once sitting with a top 10 income earner of a company and I asked him to show me the compensation plan. He said he isn’t good at explaining it and doesn’t really understand the comp plan but can call somebody and they could walk me through it. (I’m sure he knew the comp plan inside and out and could have explained it to me very clearly). He didn’t because he knew he was actually training me by example. He didn’t want me to be explaining it to people so he didn’t explain it to me. This also demonstrated to me why he was a top income earner!

To your success,

Ryan

Your team will be a lot like a deck of cards. The first person you sponsor may only perform at a level 3 (of 10) and you may become disappointed. Don’t worry, just think of the card analogy. You drew a 3 – no big deal. Go ahead and draw another card (sponsor another person). What did you get this time? An 8? A 9? A queen? Hopefully not a joker! Just as with cards, don’t try to change the card you’ve drawn, just keep picking. If you are persistent enough, eventually you will get an Ace! Aces are the ones you are looking for. Aces are self motivated. Aces are influential. Aces are well networked. In short – Aces build downlines!

If you are persistent enough in building your organization you will eventually find the aces. You may have to go through 50 or so personally sponsored people to find a few good Aces. So if you haven’t sponsored your first Ace yet, just keep drawing the cards. Eventually one is bound to show up!

To Your Success,

Ryan

While at a regional conference I heard about a “power down” principle. This is a strategy about who to build with. In my particular company, Vemma, the compensation plan is a binary plan. This plan allows for unlimited levels down. Since every position only has a right and left side, there is natually a lot of “spill over”.

The question is – who do you spend your time with? Do you work the people you personally enrolled? Do you work with the people that work well with you? Do you work with the people your personal’s enroll? Do you work with the people who need this the most? Do you work with the people who aren’t doing anything? Do you work with the people who are productive? There are a lot of options and the Power Down principle determines how to best spend your time.

The best use of your time is to work with the people who are producing the most results. The people who are actively building are the people you want to be spending your time with. There is a big difference between the people who say they are building and those who are actually building. The idea is that you Power Down you to those people and work with them. You forget everyone else and head down to work with the producers. They may be 50 levels deep in your organization and you may not have sponsored them. It doesn’t matter. You “power down” to work with the producers.

Everyone else (upline) in the chain benefits from this. Instead of trying to convince, motivate and force people to build, you simply add fuel to the fire where it is already burning. If you think of the fire analogy, think of looking for sparks in your organization and then doing everything you can to create a forest fire. If you waste your time trying to spark up the dead parts of your organization, you won’t have enough momentum to create a fire large enough to take over. Keep the flame going by the Power Down principle!

To Your Success,

Ryan

Many MLMers will get knocked out of the game because their brother and their best friend won’t want to join the business. If this is your mentality then you may as well not even join an MLM. MLM is just like any other sale. You must work the numbers. You must think of it like a funnel. At the top you pour in all your leads and at the bottom come your sales.

Let’s say you invite 100 leads to view your presentation

Of the 100 you are able to contact 87 of them.

Of the 87, only 57 of them are available.

Of the 57, only 38 want to come.

Of the 38, only 32 promise they’ll be there

Of the 32, only 23 show up

Of the 23, only 17 pay attention

Of the 17, only 8 are interested

Of the 8, only 4 actually sign up.

What does this mean? It means that for every 100 people that see your presentation, 4 will sign up (or every 1 out of 25). Is this good? Is this bad? That depends. How fast can you go through the numbers? How many people can you present to? If you’re goal is to enroll a new person every day for one week, you better be willing and able to invite 25 people per day to see the presentation!

Of course, everyone’s numbers may be different. The longer you are in the better and more credible you will become. This should increase your closing ratio. The point is think of MLM as a numbers game. If you are worried about how to go through that many number – don’t worry that’s another one of my posts!

To your success,

This week’s post is a fishing analogy. Let’s say Bob likes to go fishing every weekend. He has been doing this for years. One weekend you decide to go with him. Bob has become so good he is able to catch fish right away. He catches some very small fish and throws them in a bucket. You feel kind of bad for Bob and say “Don’t worry Bob! There are plenty of fish in the sea! You’ll catch a big one sooner or later!” After hours of catching fish, Bob finally catches the big one! He reels it in and you be begin to celebrate. To your surprise, Bob throws it back into the lake! This continues for the rest of the fishing trip. Why is he keeping the little ones and throwing back the big ones?

On the way back home you decide to finally ask Bob what he is thinking. “Bob, you are one of the best fisherman I know. Why would you spend years perfecting your skill but never keep the big fish? Many fishermen would only dream of catching the big fish like that!”

Bob replies, “Oh, never thought about that. The big fish just don’t fit in my frying pan!”

This story is a metaphor for your dreams. How big are your dreams? Are you limiting your success because you are comfortable with you’re current perspective? Are you denying yourself the big dreams (fish) because you have little thoughts (frying pan)? How big is your frying pan?

To Your Success,

Ryan

He became known through his infomercials and self-help books, Unlimited Power: The New Science of Personal Achievement and Awaken The Giant Within. The first edition of Unlimited Power was published by Fawcett Columbine (Ballantine Books) in 1987. Robbins writes about subjects such as health and energy, overcoming fears, persuasive communication, and enhancing relationships. He also became known in America and internationally through infomercials promoting personal development audio programs and motivational seminars. His audio programs, seminars and self-help products featured Neuro-linguistic programming and Ericksonian hypnosis which he studied at the start of his career. Robbins seminars also used firewalking as a metaphor for overcoming fears and limiting beliefs. Later, Robbins combined his skills and techniques with other methods claimed to effect personal change.

When thinking of your target market, I think it is best to think of yourself running two separate business: One for your product and one for business builders. To make this clear I will use myself as an example.

Target Market 1: Business Builders.

I am looking for highly qualified business builders who can build a business online. I have a website (www.myMLMvideos.com) that shows anyone how to market any MLM product online. This blog also fits into this category. Notice how all these posts are about MLM success. That’s because I want to attract successful business builders to my business. I promote this blog using Twitter (www.twitter.com/MLMsystems)

Target Market 2: Customers

My product is Vemma / Verve. A daily liquid vitamin and energy drink. My lifestyle is used to promote this. I am a marathon and run around 40 miles per week. I tell people about how my brother (a pro cycler) recommended I take this product to aide in my recovery time. I could start a fitness blog with training tips. This could help me build up a following of athletes. That would be an ideal target market for my product. I promote this target by a different Twitter account (www.SanDiegoFitness.com)

With this being said, I am ultimately looking for business builders who like the product and customers who want to be business builders.

To your success,
